Why Tone Remedy Exists

I’ve been involved with guitars all my life. I started playing at seven years old and went on to gig regularly in various bands, semi-professionally. From an early age I was just as interested in how guitars worked as I was in playing them – buying, repairing, refinishing, upgrading and eventually selling them to fund my ever-growing taste for better instruments and expensive upgrades!

Even after I stopped gigging, that passion never went away. I kept working on guitars whenever I could, and one Christmas my wife Sophie bought me a voucher for formal training. I thoroughly enjoyed it and quickly realised I already knew much of what was being taught. When the instructor later offered me a job building guitars with him, it confirmed what I already knew – this was something I needed to pursue properly, even without a workshop!

That’s how Tone Remedy came to life in May 2025. The feedback from customers has been incredible and genuinely humbling. While on holiday, I had the idea to start building pickups as well, and since then things have snowballed. I now run a very full but deeply fulfilling business, working on some fantastic guitars and basses for the brilliant musicians of Somerset, and building some genuinely exciting pickups which are going into some brilliant artists' guitars in 2026 and hopefully into some guitars for good causes as well (watch this space!) 

Spare time is pretty limited these days, but when I do get it, it’s spent with my wife Sophie and our newborn daughter Isla – usually on our allotment or down Berrow Beach with our two dogs - a Cocker Spaniel & Border Terrier. Life (and the house) is a bit chaotic, with a busy workshop alongside family life, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
